12 five-minute AI wins, plus the setup I use every day

This page goes with the 20 Oct issue of AI Signal. Just find your part below and jump to it. One step at a time.

I checked every feature here against the company's own help pages on 20 Oct 2026. But apps change so fast. If a button moved, just reply to the email and tell me.

Click below:

  • 🔎 Check any answer with one word

  • ChatGPT: bill in plain English · morning brief · mini website

  • Claude: notes to PDF · your company's voice · weekly report

  • Gemini: camera chat · report to podcast · your first Skill

  • Grok: photo to cartoon · brand mentions · daily digest

  • 🧠 ChatGPT and Grok inside Claude Code

🔎 One word to check any answer

Here are all 8 lines in one box. It's last week's 7, plus the new source line at the end. If you already saved the 7, just paste the last line.

Copy all 8 lines:

Tap and hold the box to select it on a phone. Full setup steps for ChatGPT and Claude are on the 7-lines page.

What it looks like

Before: I asked ChatGPT if I should switch to Claude for writing emails. It said "No" and gave me a neat table. Very sure.

After I typed "source": it found 3 help pages, one from Anthropic and two from OpenAI. Then it said its main claim was unverified. No study shows ChatGPT writes better emails.

Same advice. Much less confidence. That second answer is the one I trust.

Where it breaks

  • It can name a real page that doesn't say what it claims. Open the link before you repeat it.

  • ChatGPT may save the lines in its own words. Check what it saved in your memory settings.

  • In a very long chat, the style can slip back. For anything important, start a new chat.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT: photo of a bill, morning brief, mini website

Photo of a confusing bill → plain English

Just starting · 5 minutes · Free · phone

For example, a bill, a school letter or a tax notice you don't understand. One photo and one question.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open ChatGPT on your phone. Tap +, then Add photos & files.

  2. Take a photo of the page. Cover any account number with your finger first.

  3. Paste the prompt and send.

What you get: A short answer you can act on, and a warning if part of the photo is blurry.

⚠️ The catch: Free accounts get 3 file uploads a day. Each photo can be up to 20 MB.

A morning brief, ready every weekday

For work · 5 minutes to set up · Free (exact times need a paid plan) · web

You set it once. ChatGPT runs it every weekday and it's there when you open the app.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open a new chat on chatgpt.com.

  2. Paste the prompt, with your industry in the brackets.

  3. ChatGPT turns it into a scheduled task. You'll find it later under Scheduled in the sidebar.

  4. So it reaches you: Settings, then Notifications, then turn on push or email.

What you get: 3 short talking points with links, before your first meeting.

⚠️ The catch: Free and Go get 3 active tasks, at most once a day, in a morning, afternoon or night window. Open a link before you repeat a talking point to your boss.

Notes → a live mini website, in one chat

Going further · 10 minutes · Plus or higher · web

For example, a one-page FAQ for your team, or a page for an event. No code, no hosting to set up.

And if you built custom GPTs: OpenAI stops all of them on 11 Dec 2026. Existing GPTs keep working until then. Pick the 1 or 2 you really use and plan where they go now.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. On chatgpt.com, choose Work.

  2. Type @Sites and paste the prompt with your facts.

  3. Check the preview. Ask for changes in plain words.

  4. Tap Share, then Publish.

What you get: A live web page with its own link that you can send.

⚠️ The catch: Sites is in public beta, on Plus and higher. Building uses your Codex usage. It isn't in the ChatGPT Classic app.

Claude

Claude: notes to PDF, company voice, weekly report

Messy notes → a real PDF

Just starting · 5 minutes · Free · phone or web

Meeting notes, a voice-typed ramble, a list on the back of an envelope. Claude makes a real file you can download and send.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open Claude and paste your notes.

  2. Paste the prompt under them and send.

  3. Tap the file to download it.

What you get: A clean PDF, and a to-do list that shows what you still need to find out.

⚠️ The catch: It's on by default on Free. If no file appears: Settings, then Capabilities, then Code execution and file creation. A file job empties your usage bucket faster than a normal chat.

Every email in your company's voice

For work · 10 minutes · Free · web or desktop

A commenter on my Reddit post said it best: "Describing your voice gets you an impression of it. Showing it gets you the real thing." So you show Claude, once.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. In Claude, open Projects and make a new one called "Emails".

  2. Add 2 or 3 emails you wrote and liked. Paste them or upload them.

  3. Paste the prompt into the project's instructions.

  4. Start every email chat inside this project.

What you get: Drafts that sound like you, with gaps marked instead of filled with guesses.

⚠️ The catch: Each project file can be up to 30 MB, and all of them together must fit what Claude can hold at once. A few good emails beat 50 average ones.

A weekly report that writes itself while your laptop sleeps

Going further · 10 minutes · Pro or higher · desktop or web

You give Claude a repeat job once. Since 6 Oct 2026, new scheduled tasks run on Anthropic's computers, so your laptop can be closed.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open Cowork. In newer Claude apps it's part of the normal chat.

  2. Type /schedule, or click Scheduled in the left sidebar.

  3. Paste the prompt with your folder or connected Drive.

  4. Pick weekly, Monday, 8 am.

What you get: A status note waiting for you on Monday morning.

⚠️ The catch: Pro and higher only. Tasks that use your computer or local files still need it awake. Some people this month saw tasks stuck on "Pending", so check the first run.

Gemini

Gemini: camera chat, report to podcast, first Skill

Point your camera and just talk

Just starting · 2 minutes · Free · phone app

This is the easiest first step I know. No typing, so spelling and English don't matter. You talk like you'd talk to a friend, and you can interrupt it.

Try saying: "What is this plant, and why are the leaves going yellow?"

Steps

  1. Open the Gemini app on your phone. This isn't on the website.

  2. Tap Live, then turn the camera on.

  3. Point it at something and ask out loud.

What you get: A spoken answer about the thing in front of you, and you can ask follow-ups.

⚠️ The catch: Phone app only. iPhone buttons can look a little different. You must be 13 or older.

A long report → a podcast for your commute

For work · 5 minutes · Free · web or app

That 40-page PDF you keep saving for later. Two AI hosts talk you through it.

Steps

  1. Open Gemini Notebook. It's the new name for NotebookLM, same app.

  2. Make a new notebook and add the report (PDF, Doc or a link).

  3. Open the Studio panel and pick Audio Overview. "The Brief" is the short one.

  4. Listen on the way to work.

What you get: A short audio version of the report you can play on your phone.

⚠️ The catch: The free plan has 100 notebooks with 50 sources each, and some pages list a daily cap on audio. The hosts can get a number wrong, so check a number before you quote it.

Move your best Gem to a Skill, yourself

Going further · 10 minutes · Free · computer

Gems start moving to Skills in November 2026 for personal accounts. Work accounts follow in 2027. Google converts leftover Gems by itself, but if you move your best one now, you know it still works.

Steps

  1. Go to gemini.google.com on a computer.

  2. In the sidebar, click Customize (or More, then Customize), then Skills.

  3. Make a blank skill and paste in your Gem's instructions, or upload a file.

  4. In any chat, type / and the skill name to use it.

What you get: Your Gem as a Skill you can call in any chat.

⚠️ The catch: Personal accounts only, 18 and older, with Keep Activity on. Skills started rolling out on 13 Oct and may not show for everyone until mid-November. Canvas, Deep Research, video and music don't work with skills yet.

Grok

Grok: photo to cartoon, brand mentions, daily digest

Your photo → a cartoon

Just starting · 3 minutes · Free · web or app

A fun first win. Your pet works best.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open grok.com or the Grok app and go to Imagine.

  2. Upload a photo of your pet, or of yourself.

  3. Paste the prompt.

What you get: A cartoon version of your photo.

⚠️ The catch: Free is limited. Every image gets a Grok watermark and you can't turn it off. Use your own photos only, never someone else's and never a child's.

What people are saying about your brand this week

For work · 5 minutes · Free · web or app

Grok is the research king right now, because it searches X and the web live.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Open grok.com or the Grok app.

  2. Paste the prompt with your brand or a competitor.

  3. Open 2 of the links to check them.

What you get: 3 themes with real posts you can click.

⚠️ The catch: It only sees public posts. If it answers with no links, type "search X now". Open a link before you share it with your team.

A daily digest, waiting when you wake up

Going further · 5 minutes · Free · web or app

Set it once. Grok runs it every morning.

Copy this:

Steps

  1. Go to grok.com/automations, or just ask in a chat.

  2. Paste the prompt with your topic.

  3. Pick weekdays and a time.

What you get: 5 links on your topic every weekday morning.

⚠️ The catch: Scheduled runs are for everyone. Starting a task from an email needs a paid plan. xAI doesn't publish the free limit.

🧠 ChatGPT and Grok inside Claude Code

Claude is the brain of my AI. ChatGPT and Grok are the hands it calls when it needs an outside hand. Grok does my live research on the web and X. ChatGPT makes my images.

For example, for this issue Grok found the install commands and checked all 12 wins above. ChatGPT drew the 7 screenshots below. I never left Claude Code.

You need: Claude Code (the desktop app or the terminal, on Claude Pro or higher), a ChatGPT account and a Grok account. I use ChatGPT Plus and SuperGrok. About 20 minutes, on a Mac or Windows computer.

Step 1: paste one message

You don't type terminal commands yourself. Claude Code can use the terminal, so it runs the official installers for you.

Step 1: paste one message into Claude Code

Steps 2 and 3: Claude Code installs both

It runs the Codex installer first, then the Grok one. If the Codex installer finds an old copy and asks to remove it, say yes. It happened on my Mac today.

Step 2: Claude Code installs Codex
Step 3: Claude Code installs Grok

Step 4: log in once in your browser

Codex opens a browser window. Pick Sign in with ChatGPT. Grok does the same the first time it runs. You do the clicking. Claude Code never sees your password.

Step 4: log in once in the browser

Step 5: Claude Code tests both

It asks each tool a simple question. I used "what is 2+2?". When both answer, the setup works.

Step 5: both tools answer a test question

Step 6: make the two skills

A skill is a saved set of instructions. After this, you type /grok or /chatgpt and Claude Code knows what to do.

Step 6: Claude Code makes the two skills

Step 7: use them

Step 7: type /grok or /chatgpt

Two ways I use them:

If you'd rather run the commands yourself

These are the official ones (Mac). Windows commands are on each tool's GitHub page.

Where it breaks

  • Grok's links can be wrong or old. I open every link before I use it.

  • Codex has no internet in the terminal, so any link it gives you comes from memory. Check it.

  • Images can invent labels and numbers. Look at every image before you post it.

  • codex or grok "not found"? Open a new terminal window and try again.

⚠️ Install only from chatgpt.com/codex and x.ai/cli. A tool called grok-dev uses the same grok command and isn't from xAI.
